After his disappointing performance at ADCC, Mason refocused his sites on being the best competitor in the world. His next test came in the form of the UFC invitational, where he submitted his first two opponents and beat an always-game Nick Griffith in the final to take home the $25k and the title of UFC invitational champion.
He then shifted his training to the gi, something he has done his entire career, and got ready for the 2023 European open championships. When people ask what we focus on at CTA, the answer is whatever we are competing in next. We do not specialize in gi or no gi; we specialize in Jiu Jitsu!
Mason submitted all but one person in his division on his way to becoming a 2023 European Open champion! This was his second major title at the black belt level and an amazing start to the year. As a coach, I couldn't be prouder, not because he won but because of the way he always battles through adversity. At some point, I plan to release a breakdown of his matches for online training!
